		<description>Backyard House

Los Angeles, California

The Backyard House translates the typical backyard and its corresponding parts onto the actual residence in an effort to promote increased interfamily usage. A small hot tub is visually connected to the main pool at grade, while an occupied grass roof provides expanded space for recreation. The ribbon of terrain wraps the house creating a carpet capable of facilitating a multitude of activities.

		<description>Malibu Beach House

Malibu, California

The beach house design proposal is located off the California coast overlooking the beach and the Pacific Ocean. To maximize the lot, the roof is made occupiable for events and gatherings. A small kitchen and grill situated on the rooftop provides prime opportunities to enjoy the company of others and the view outward. Within the residence, a master and guest room are arranged around an interior core of services allowing for expandable and flexible spaces. Partitions allow the living room to expand into the bedroom and vice versa. A large expansive opening offers the master bedroom a prime view to the ocean as the house is intended for use by a young couple. A freestanding tub is situated to provide a 180 degree view when in use.

		<description>Strategostructure Library

New York, New York

Alan Lu, Benham Karimipour, Slobodan Radoman

The Strategostructure Library is an experimental project in which various cultural venues are tasked with occupying parts of a single tower. The library is nestled under the museum and above the theater providing opportunities for synergistic space that with other synergies between other program creates a tower that is more than the sum of its parts. The library itself must operate as a typical branch of the New York Public Library, yet seeks to move beyond the typical library typology. Due to the increasing methods of accessing information remotely through handheld devices, the library is facing obsolescence. However, the library has an asset the librarian who is able to provide curated assistance. This asset thus must be leveraged in an efficient way. To accomplish this, the librarians first must be visible to the user immediately, which is manifested in a reflected surface that is seen right when a user enters the library. Second there must be a critical mass of librarians that occupy a space, allowing for interdisciplinary exchange and discussion. Further, discrete environments can be set up to provide different atmospheres and spaces through which librarians can converse and guide users.

		<description>Hollywood Recording Studio

Hollywood, California

The storefront for a recording studio based in Hollywood utilizes the subtle texture present in an anechoic chamber and transplants it on the visually accessible facade. Fabricated out of aluminum with a high gloss finish, the lights of the surrounding environment and the passing cars are reflected at various angles.

		<description>Pitched Roof House

Undisclosed Location

The pitched roof house is a vacation home situated in a cold climate region. The traditional pitched roof is utilized for both its performative attributes and its symbolic notions of house. The residence is oriented as to capture southern heat gain. The valleys inherent in the multiplied pitches in the roof create deposits whereby snow is collected, and filtered into the water supply for the house. Regional brick is used, and an open air fireplace offers a secluded and private place to settle in.

		<description>SuperStadium

Harbin, China

SuperStadium is a proposal for an Olympic complex for Harbin’s bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics that seeks to integrate the multitude of Olympic arenas and villages into one continuous entity, allowing for a seamless transition between programs and events. With the economic burdens of hosting the Olympic games a key issue in the local and global economy, the proposal attempts to inject the current model of sporting arenas with a social and cultural initiative. Thus, the building itself becomes a series of typological layers, with the ground floor programmed as a cultural landscape with libraries, museums, convention halls, and screening rooms. The layer above exists as the main sports level with four large multiuse arenas, and the upper most layer becomes a public promenade that weaves through the landscape lines with retail stores and cafes. The layers are connected visually through shifts in section that allow users to watch the sporting events from other programs and vice versa. The end effect is one of specialized spaces that resist the urge for unprogrammed space to go unused, yet still inform each other spatially and visually. The Olympic village itself is transformed into a vertical tower, tailored for the athletes during the games, but easily converted to valuable real estate once the games are over.
