Art Fund Pavilion
London, UK
The pavilion proposal emerges as a multi-use shell that is derived from the movement of splines across the designated site. One main objective aims to allow for the use of the pavilion for multiple uses including an exhibition space, presentation space, and a gathering/party space. The shell, constructed from timber, allows for enclosure and protection of the internal exhibits. However, to facilitate outside and inside qualities, perforations in the timber panels allow for sight lines throughout the pavilion, letting the outside seep in and giving those outside a glimpse into the internal cavity of the pavilion. The openings also allow for lighting to be inserted, creating a dynamic luminous environment at night. The materials and construction strategy ensure a simple yet efficient fabrication and assemblage process.
